The Adventures of Sam in LA
So let's work backwards:
I got contact lenses today. It's nice having my peripheral vision again. I haven't worn contact lenses in ages. The insurance from work covered almost half of the cost of the contacts and all of the exam cost, which is awesome. It was my first time using insurance on my own. Sweetness.
We got our Xbox 360 replacement on Thursday and we rearranged our furniture.
This previous weekend, me and Seiji went with our coworker from Red Engine to his friend's birthday party. He has a narrow apartment right up against the ocean. It was pretty pimp. There was a lot of film/tv people there. Generally lots of older people that seemed pretty well off. Wasn't exactly my crowd but I met a nice house DJ.
Speaking of Red Engine, we finally got paid for our work for the end of the Chicago bulls project. You can see it on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yFZRrieLKMo and there's a higher quality topsecret version at www.redengineprod.com/bulls.mov
I made the smoke effects coming out of the bull's nose at the end as well as the dynamic pebbles bouncing that you can barely see when the main bull lands. I feel famous in a trivial way and I like it :).
Looking ahead:
I have a holiday break from the Dec. 22nd to the January 2nd. Brian will be flying me into Chicago to work with him on a Disney commercial. He's was one of my most inspiring teachers in college I'm really excited about the chance to work with him. In preparation I've learned Boujou, a camera motion tracking software. I've also started learning Shake a compositing package.
I'm looking forward to be in Chicago again. My time in Chicago during Thanksgiving really reminded my of how much I value the people in my life.

Hey Sam! I stalked you through your email, so don't be too creeped out. Can't get into myspace but I could get on here so I thought I'd say hi. Sorry we didn't have the chance to catch up while you were in Chicago... for some reason it didn't register that you live in LA now! Anyway, I hope you are enjoying it out there, and definitely take advantage of work perks.. I know I have! Let me know in advance if you are ever in Chicago again--I will definitely make time to catch up! -Anita
